Class 66, 15.26 Drax PS-Tyne coal terminal, York Yard North
A pretty poor quality photograph taken as our train enters York from the north. It shows an unidentified Class 66 at the head of a northbound bulk train that has taken the York avoided line and is waiting to rejoin the ECML to continue its journey northwards. However, also of interest is the buildings directly above the train. They are the former NER Holgate Road carriage works that were opened in 1884 but has now been closed. Throughout its working life the works has a proud heritage of railway production but this has been blighted somewhat in recent years with many former workers dying from asbestos-related diseases as a result of the conditions within the plant.
