In days past, to visit the National Railway Museum one had to take a lengthy walk starting from the station entrance turning left into Station Road and then left again into Leeman Road crossing under the railway lines in a long, poorly lit and urine stenching pedestrian tunnel eventually arriving at the museum entrance. Now, the station footbridge has been extended for visitors to then walk the short distance directly to the museum taking a few minutes. The bridge extension and steps can be seen in this view that also shows 43367 leading the 15.00 King's Cross to Edinburgh HST service.
