Passing Derby's REVL (Railway Vehicle Engineering Ltd) is always a bit of a treat for the enthusiast as there a lot of stock to be seen from the passing train. Network Rail liveried and branded 97301 stands outside one of the maintenance sheds between duties. As D6800 and later 37301 this member of the class was based for nearly all of its life in and around Yorkshire but for a brief foray to Gateshead. In 2007 it was saved from being scrapped and became 97301 after refurbishment at Barrow Hill. Along with three other members of the class it has been fitted with ERTMS signalling equipment and is used primarily on the Cambrian lines from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli, which requires trains to have this type of onboard signalling equipment.
