Harwich International station is located on Parkstone Quay and owes its existence to the Great Eastern Railway who developed the port and its associated infrastructure on reclaimed land in the 1880s. The rather grand former hotel and station building is now somewhat obscured by some rather clumsy canopies and lift towers. Whilst the station still boasts fairly healthy numbers of passengers courtesy of the daily ferry service to The Hook of Holland it is not as busy as in its heyday with regular boat trains not only to and from London but also from the north of the country.
