The fine and ornate cast-iron bridge that carries the railwayand the station over Middlesbrough's Exchange Place was designed by the North Eastern Railway's chief architect William Peachey and was constructed in 1877. It is a target for regular bridge strikes given its 13' 6" limited clearance, indeed, putting the name into a search engine reveals many examples of busses and lorries hitting the structure over the years. |
