The token is passed from the 10.13 Whitby to Middlesborough DMU to the signalwoman at Nunthorpe. She is standing on a specially constructed platform to enable this to take place at the base of the 1903 North Eastern Railway box. At the time of writing (2020), the box is still in use and controlling the only semaphores in use on the Esk Valley route.
