5690 'Leander' pauses at Earlstown station for a photo stop

in the days when passengers were permitted to alight from the train and wander about with impunity to take their photographs or get a 'cab' of the locomotive. Leander was leading the outward leg of a BR sponsored special from Manchester to Liverpool Edge Hill and back again as part of the Rocket 150 celebrations. In this view taken from Junction Lane bridge the track curving sharply away to the south leads to Winwick Junction where it joins the WCML a short distance away.
