With a friendly wave from the driver of 170114, the13.22 Birmingham New Street to Cambridge rushes past the remote and very quiet Wymondham crossing. When a train approaches, there are no wailing sirens or barriers crashing down as the gates stay firmly closed to road traffic unless a vehicle wants to cross the railway. The wooden gates are manually operated by a signalman (or signalwoman on the day of our visit) if the lines are clear. |
