What a glorious sight to behold! Against a lovely evening springtime sky, the western end of Newton Abbot station is viewed from the junction of Station and Torquay Roads. The view is dominated by the Type 28C West Box which was opened in 1927 and its superb gantry spanning the tracks behind it. Behind the gantry is the purpose-built diesel depot with a couple of Class 50s in view along with the resident Class 08 shunter. To the right are three coaches painted in the publisher David and Charles' corporate colours. The one nearest the camera is a former LNER gangwayed full brake/pigeon van number 70759 that currently resides on the SVR as part of its teak set. I returned a few weeks after this date and took a time exposure standing in what must have been exactly the same position, see....
