47442 accelerates away from Aller Junction a short distance south of Newton Abbot leading the 17.02 Paignton to Newton Abbott local stopper. This service was an efficient way of returning a set of stock that had worked from the north earlier in the day back to Newton Abbot for servicing and stabling. This particular Class 47 did not make it to the privatisation era being withdrawn early in 1993 but it took another four years before it was cut up at Crewe works where it was built just over three decades earlier in February 1964.
