50017, 11.20 Paignton-London Paddington, Cowley Bridge Junction
By this time of day, this viewpoint at Cowley Bridge was becoming rather too backlit for my liking. However, the fine sight and sound of 50017 'Royal Oak' accelerating away from Exeter with the 11.20 Paignton to Paddington will have inspired me to press my shutter! 50017 was the third member of the class to be comprehensively refurbished, or re-built given the amount of work undertaken, and had been back in service for some three months when this photograph was taken. However, being an early refurbished example, it does not have its centre mounted high-intensity headlamp fitted but the hole to accept it is drilled and crudely plated over with a circular disk of steel.
