55008 'The Fife & Forfar Yeomanry' arrives at York station

leading the 09.50 Edinburgh to Plymouth service. This was in the pre HST days when the NE to SW services were handled by lengthy sets of locomotive hauled stock with engine changes taking place at York. There was nothing quite like the sound of a pair of Napiers filling the giant train shed at York. As a spotter there was always a sense of excitement and anticipation when the approaching drone was heard way before the train appeared around the tight curve!
