As our train passes through Castleford at some speed, I managed a bit of a 'grab shot' of Castleford Gates signal box. This NER box dates from circa 1870 built to its Type S1 design. It soldiered on in use until 1987 when it was closed by Railtrack along with Whitwood and Castleford Station boxes. Control was moved to a portacabin affair diagonally opposite Gates box.
