In the utter gloom of a foul July morning, 66730 'Whitemoor' leads the 02.44 Dollands Moor to Kirkdale new stock movement through Roade. The GBRf locomotive is towing a pair of brand new Merseyrail units to their new home having arrived from the continent through the tunnel the previous day. 777005 and 777009 are the units being conveyed and now several months late with the first ones due in service by now. Notice that the units are articulated following in the best traditions of innovative design such as was applied to the APT-P, the LNER Silver Jubilee train and Eurostars to name just three. There was a very interesting article in Traction issue 257 on the subject of railway articulation written by Colin Boocock.
