The driver of DSB IC3 number 5206 'Kristine Svendsdatter' climbs aboard his train at Copenhagen Central station. I travelled on this train, the 15.37 to Nykøbing Falster as far as Roskilde. I consciously decided to travel on this diesel train rather than one of the locomotive-hauled services to compare this unit with the latter. Despite its unfortunate looks, the unit was comfortable and roomy with some invertible noise from the underslung six-cylinder Deutz engines. This particular unit holds a speed record at one hundred and twenty-eight miles per hour between Årup and Middelfart in October 1991; for such a slab fronted design this seems an impressive feat!
