A plaque attached to a wall at the western end of Polmont station to commemorate those who lost their lives as a result of the derailment of the 17.30 Edingburgh to Glasgow push-pull service on 30.07.84. The train was travelling through the station at about eight-five miles per hour with 47707 'Holyrood' providing the power at the rear. Just beyond the station the DBSO (converted Mk. II) hit a cow that had escaped onto the line from an adjacent field. The subsequent derailment caused thirteen fatalities and numerous injuries. The chief finding of the report was for object deflectors to be fitted to the leading vehicles of trains that had an axle load of less than sixteen tonnes.
