170478 emerges into the glorious summer sunshine leaving Peth with the 1B08 06.50 Inverness to Edinburgh. The train is passing under the station new footbridge that opened in 2013 at a cost of one million pounds. It has just been awarded the 2015 Carbuncle Award which recognises the worst planning decisions taken throughout the UK. The bridge, as well as being totally out of character with the rest of the superb Victoria station, is inconveniently located and simply duplicates other footbridges around the station. Whilst the vast majority of passengers will not use it as it will involve an unnecessary and convoluted walk around the station it does provide full disability access for those with particular needs. However, why this provision could not be provided within the existing structures at a fraction of the cost remains a mystery?
