31106 & 31459, stabled, RVEL Derby
Two examples of the two hundred and sixty-seven built class 31s stand outside Derby's RVEL facility. In the foreground, 31459 'Cerberus' is still proudly wearing its nameplates and the once very smart, but now somewhat faded, Fragonset livery. I am not sure what will become of this locomotive that has already escaped the cutter's torch once being on Toton's scrap lines for many years? To the left of the image is 31106, formally named 'Spalding Town', seen in a reproduction BR blue. After being leased to Fragonset, FM Rail, and RVEL during which time it travelled all over the network operating test trains it has now been withdrawn from service and faces an uncertain future. Surely, it is too good to scrap?
