I was monitoring the speed of the 13.30 Edinburgh Waverley to King's Cross HST for most of the journey using my Blackberry 'phone. There was some spirited running, particulalry on the decent from Stoke summit. Here, as we approach Maxey level crossing north of Peterborough, we reached the dizzy heights of one hundred and thirty-one miles per hour. I believe that this was the highest speed that we reached on the journey and this was maintained for the next few miles until the driver had to brake on the approach to Peterborough.
