A crew change is taking place at Newcastle station as the 11.00 King's Cross to Inverness service pauses on its long journey to Scotland. The leading power car is 43308 'Highland Chieftain' that has had its red vinyl applied by its new operator, Virgin Trains East Coast, who took over operations on the ECML on the first day of last month. The white car in the background is parked on the site of the former suburban platforms that were closed in 1980 when the Newcastle Metro was opened.
