66713 'Forest City' comes to a halt at York's platform five with the 09.44 Drax power station to Redcar bulk terminal coal empties. Despite the belief that Drax has converted to biomass, this is not quite true. It still burns some coal co-firing it with biomass. Thus, there are still some regular merry-go-round style coal trains serving the huge power station with GBRF operating them. I am a little confused as to why freight trains such as this persist in coming through York station rather than using the relief lines that by-pass it to the west. This particular working was held at the down starter colour light for some time as various late-running passenger workings came in and out of the station. If there is anybody with local knowledge who can enlighten me as to why the relief lines are not used more regularly, please advise!
