Destination card, 09.00 London King`s Cross-Edinburgh (1S09, 1L), York station
These paper destination cards have been a feature of the Mk. IV coaches and have been in use on the ECML since the stock's introduction in 1989. Despite having a number of refurbishments in their thirty-year life, the coaches still have no matrix passenger information screens either on the outside or the inside of the stock. When they are withdrawn from the ECML it will be interesting to see if their new operators (there could be two who will make use of this excellent stock) continue to this somewhat archaic but perfectly effective way of informing passengers. This particular destination card was in the window of the 09.00 King's Cross the Edinburgh photographed during its pause at York station.
