My strongest and most powerful memories are from my first visits to The Cross in the late 1970s. I will always remember climbing from the depths of the old tube station straight up to the platform level, just behind where I am standing to take this picture in fact. Before emerging into the daylight, I would eagerly be listening out for the drone of a Deltic idling at the stops with a palpable sense expectation and excitement! Nothing quite so joyous today with DVT 82210 at the back of the 13.00 to Edinburgh whilst HST power car 43468 will provide the power at the rear of the 12.53 to Sunderland.
