I stepped out of our train to Carlisle at Lancaster station to photograph some units in the north-facing bay platforms just as 57307 'Lady Penelope' came around the curve from the north on the centre road. It was working the 09.16 Carlisle to Preston 0Z57 light engine move. At Preston, it would take up its Thunderbird post ready to rescue any failed trains on the WCML. Previously developed and operated by Virgin, these dedicated class 57s now are operated by DRS from their Carlisle Kingmoor base.
