37173 dashes south in between express passenger workings on the ECML at Eaton Wood with a very short up freight. The loss of these grossly uneconomical short mixed freights is something enthusiasts mourn but one that the accountants would applaud! This location is just south of Retford, indeed, the southern edge of the town can be seen in the top left of the photograph. This class 37 was renumbered 37801 in 1985 and eventually moved to the continent as an infrastructure locomotive and was cut up in Spain by the Celsa Group.
