With just a hint of sun trying to break through the clouds at Charlton Mackrell, passing milepost 122 (from Paddington), with telegraph poles and wires for company, 50008 'Thunderer' heads west with the 09.35 London Paddington to Penzance working. However, this could be a misidentified locomotive. Close examination of the scan shows that the engine is named. But, records state that Thunderer did not receive its name until 1st September 1979, this is a month subsequent to the photograph. So, is this 50008 or not….help anybody?
