This photograph was a close call! Mike and I waited at the southern end of platform one at Newark Northgate to witness the departure of the 15.56 to King's Cross in order to get a picture of 90039 pushing the train at the rear crossing back on to the up fast line. Whilst waiting, I commented to Mike about how ironic it would be if a down service was to pass and spoil the event, and it very nearly did! Grand Central's 180109 works the 14.48 King's Cross to Bradford Interchange at full line speed northwards approaching the station about to block the southbound service. Apart from the class 90 being a little obscured by signage, I wanted it a little further away, it just about worked with split-second timing!
