A film crew from BBC South West stand on platform one at London Paddington. They are preparing a piece about the HSTs imminent withdrawal from mainline express operations. They were interviewing the two enthusiasts standing to their left in this image asking them why the HSTs are so special? Who would ever have thought that this question would be asked forty three years ago in 1976 when they were introduced into service on the London to Bristol and South Wales routes being the final knife in the Westerns and then the class 50s. The power car behind, 43004, would have been one of those actual HSTs doing the damage as part of set 253002, one of the very first in service and probably cursed by us young spotters!
