Nunthorpe box is a superb example of a North Eastern structure dating from 1903. It sits on a busy road in the middle of the village that is now more of a suburb to Middlesborough! It controls a number of semaphores and the crossing gates and handles the all-important job of physically handing over and collecting the token enabling trains to continue on to and off the Esk Valley line.
