I don't know what it is about American machinery, but it wins no awards in the styling stakes! Like their cars of the 1960s, these GM EMD GP40 locomotives are ugly and cluttered, but could only be an American design. Here, one of the few remaining examples of these 3 000hp locomotives operating for NJ Transit Rail Operations, 4101, is seen pausing at Newark International Airport station with the 14.12 New York Penn to Hoboken Bay Head 2302 service. The size and design was as grand as the noise it made, the thundering of the engines and the screaming turbo chargers were something to behold!
