The platforms (or tracks as the American's insist on calling them!) of New York's Grand Central station was not a pleasant place to be or an easy place to take photographs. However, in contrast to the UK, there were no barriers and I was able to wander around unchallenged and did not feel that I ought not to be there, very different to how I feel at, say, a busy London terminus. Against the buffers is 8136, a unit constructed in the early 1980s. These units are being withdrawn being replaced by new M9A stock. Next to the Budd unit is 4030, a Bombardier built M7A unit.
