Our fourth train of our journey to Yorkshire was the CrossCountry 08.12 Winchester to Newcastle working. We took this train from Derby to York. Here in Sheffield, I lighted the train to take a picture of it while waiting on platform one. Notice the stark hulks of the Park Hill flats above the station roof to the right. These were inspired by Le Corbusier's Unité d'Habitation concept and opened in 1961. However, all was not well with them and by the 1990s they were almost empty and in very poor condition. Having been granted Grade II listed status, they are now being renovated and rebuilt to provide a range of housing to suit the needs of the people of Sheffield, One wonders if they will be a greater success the second time around?
