Reedham swing bridge & signal box (GE, 1904)
Reedham swing bridge & signal box (GE, 1904)
After riding my Brompton bike through Reedham village I arrived at the lofty road bridge that offers superb views across the Fens and of the swing bridge. I was pleased to see that the bridge was in the swung opened position, not something I have seen before. The 1904 Great Eastern signal box, that controls the bridge, is likely to survive the re-signalling over the coming years as there is no suitable alternative plan to control and operate the bridge, it seems that once again the Victorians got things right the first time!
