As can be clearly seen in this picture, over the

previous night, extensive re-ballasting took place on the down fast line just south of Roade. With the bedroom windows open we could hear all the work taking place overnight including some rail grinding! With the new ballast looking very fresh there was still a walking-pace TSR over this section of track. Just out if sight in the greenery below the he picture was an observer with a flag monitoring the passage of every train. On the distant skyline is the impressive spire of the Grade I listed St. James' the great parish church of Hanslope.
