Former Rowsley station, now part of Peak Shopping Village
The Peak Shopping Village is an outlet centre situated between Bakewell and Matlock in the Peak District. It is largely built on land that used to be occupied by the Midland Railway's goods yard, land on which the old station building, seen here, is located. It was once the terminus of the Midland route up from Matlock and the south and was constructed in 1849. It became redundant in 1862 when the line was extended to Bakewell and beyond via a chord to the south of this site. It lingered on as rail connected goods depot for many years and then lost its railway link when British Railways closed the entire Midland route through the Peak District in 1968. It was awarded Grade II listed status in 1972 so the building remained whilst all around was developed. It is now an integral part of the Peak Shopping Village with various smaller outlets using the building so its future is secure for the moment anyway.
