Inside Rowsley repair and maintenance shop is D9539. This is one of the many class 14s that have entered preservation. So, one of British Railways' disasters with all the class being withdrawn five years after their introduction, has been turned into a major success in the preservation world. After its short stint the mainline, D9539 was used at Corby hauling heavy iron ore trains on their internal tracks, many of which were un-ballasted.
