When Nantwich signal box closed in 2014, its future looked bleak with it going the same way as the others on the Shrewsbury to Crewe line. However, a bid to preserve it was put together involving a minister, a chapel and a miniature railway! This all fell through so an alternative plan was hatched involving OCL, a railway training academy in nearby Crewe. On a January night in 2016, the box was split in half and transported the short distance to its new location here at OCL at its Weston Road site in Crewe. After some work to repair the base, it was reunited with the top and it is the process of being fitted out again as a fully functioning box. It's good to see the 1948 LNWR designed Type IV box preserved and serving a purpose again.
