At Doncaster, one of the few remaining pieces of Nightstar stock that did not get sold to Canada is seen. Interestingly, 96374 is classified as a locomotive even though it was actually generator coach. It was designed to be used on the Nightstar services when they were hauled by class 37s as these locomotives did not have enough ETH capability. The 96s were converted Mk.III sleeper coaches of which a number were manufactured; a concept very similar to the ETHELs that were used when the Mk.III sleeper coaches were introduced in Scotland in the early 1980s.
