Mauchline signal box (GSW, 1877) I persuaded my boss to make a small diversion even though we had a pretty major journey ahead of us in a 2002 Rover 45! After parking in a cemetery car park and walking across a field this was the best shot that I could secure of Mauchline signal box. The box is on the Glasgow and South Western Railway trunk route that runs from Carlisle up to Glasgow via Dumfries. The box was originally designated as Number One with the other one closing in 1970 at the same time that the Newton-on-Ayr line was singled.
