As a young spotter in the 1970s I would often wish that our car would get a puncture as we travelled along the elevated section of the M6 that overlooked the yard so that I could get the numbers of the many stabled locomotives. The situation today is not so exciting with many fewer loco. on-shed but it remains a busy West Midlands hub of railway activity.
