No. 2, unidentified Palma-Sóller working, Sóller station
With the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana in the background, no. 2 arrives into Sóller station with a service from Palma. Next to the 3ft gauge train is tram no. 1 in the tram depot that is part of the Tranvía de Sóller. The Sóller railway was opened in 1912 (ironically on the same day that Titanic sunk!) in order to open up commerce, particularly the trade in citrus fruits, in the north of Majorca with the town of Sóller being somewhat isolated by the mountains.
