The second photo-stop of the Pennine Explorer was at Penistone station. Here, I have not been very successful in getting a shot free of people but it goes to show how busy the station must have been. It shows 76016 and 76009 leading the outward leg of the railtour Manchester Piccadilly to Rotherwood exchange sidings. I am a little confused by the position of the train in this image. In other pictures I have seen the train stopped much further forward than shown here right near to the junction with the Huddersfield line. Did the train set back or pull forward, perhaps to allow passengers from the rear coaches to alight?
