As it was a freight line, at weekends, there was little traffic over the Woodhead route with most of its unique 1500V class 76s lying idle. At the western end of the line in the eastern suburbs of Manchester they were kept in Guide Bridge yard as shown here. In an impressive and neat line-up no fewer than eight examples of the class are seen, 76014, 76004, 76041, 76001, 76051, 76040, 76047 and 76054. To a southern spotter like myself, this was 'cop heaven' as was much of what I recorded in my notebook on this particular day!
