I had arranged this visit to the signal box with the support of a signalman who lived a couple of houses from our family, Mervin Holbrook. He was based at Bradford Junction box but also did shifts at all of Westbury’s boxes at various times. He could be seen heading up or down our road at odd hours his Honda C90 moped with his black open face helmet as he went off and on shift.
