Class 52s, class 24s and DMUs, awaiting cutting up, Swindon Works Since my last visit to Swindon Works in 1977 the scrap-lines have been tidied up with the rows of doomed stock and locomotives having been brought together. The scrap-man will no doubt do his worst in far more efficient manner now. Notice in the background the dead elm tree lined fields on the skyline. This area has now been completely covered by Swindon's western expansion area that exploded in the early 1980s covering thousands of hectares of greenfield land.
