43139, GW 11.06 London Paddington-Plymouth (1C79, 23L), Newton Abbot station 43139 'Driver Stan Martin 25 June 1950 - 6 November 2004' brings up the rear of the 1C79 11.06 Paddington to Penzance as it leaves Newton Abbot station. This is a scene that has changed dramatically since my last visit in 1986, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29422482004/x47549-up-working-newton-abbot-station. In this view, to the right would have been Newton Abbot's very fine West signal box. The whole scene was dominated by the huge gantry that controlled all workings at this end of the station. This was dismantled and now sits at the entrance to an industrial and retail park situated behind the former David and Charles publisher's building to the left.
