As usual on quadruple track, a special is usually pathed on the slow lines so as to keep it out the way of faster traffic. However, with a Deltic, they are pretty capable of keeping up a consistent and fast pace but the signallers in control would probably be too young to remember this! D9009 'Alycidon' is stuck behind a Great Northern stopper service as it approaches Langford in Bedfordshire. It was leading the return Leeds and Hull Executive from King's Cross that, ultimately, would end up at Willington in Derbyshire. The Deltic in rail blue with a matching set of period stock looks and is absolutely right for this line, it's just a shame it was on the slow!
