Being on the up fast would mean that the train would be working hard to keep its path avoiding delaying other trains. I was right as D9009 'Alycidon' was at full chat and making all the right noise as it raced south complete with the flying thistle on the front. It was also great to see a long an uniformed rake of blue and grey Mk.II stock to complete the picture. I have to admit that the whole feast of the sight and sound did trigger a little emotion in me!
