In the middle distance to the left can be seen

the flattened remains of the once huge IBM factory in Spango Valley southwest of Greenock. After much rationalisation, it closed in 2016 and became another nail in the coffin of Scotland's once famous 'Silicon Glen'. The station, named IBM, was opened in 1978 to serve the workforce and it did so successfully for many years. Even though trains are still scheduled to stop, they drop and collect no passengers except for possibly some contractors working on the site.
