37706 & 44781, taking water, Crewe station After the visit to DRS at Gresty Bridge, Andy and I returned to Crewe station in time to see the various activity underway there. Unfortunately, with the intense dry weather that was so much of a feature of the summer 2018, steam was banned on the network unless piloted by a diesel. This lead to scenes such as this at Crewe with 44781 tucked in behind 37706. The combo had run down from Carnforth to Crewe and after this water stop headed on to Bristol via the Welsh Marches route.
